I want to take a moment to highlight two events coming up in the next week or so, one serious and one fun.
First (chronologically), the serious one. Our next intruder safety training with the Clayton Police Department will be this Sunday, February 4 from 4-6pm. If you've been feeling nervous about safety, about coming to shul, or know anyone else who has, this is great for them. For anyone who is at Kol Rinah regularly, and especially anyone who ever serves as a greeter, your coming to this training will make you and all of us safer! Knowledge really is power. There's not much we do (other than donating blood) that could actually save lives at Kol Rinah. This could save your own life, and the lives of others. Details and RSVP here.
Second (still chronologically), Saturday evening, February 10 from 7-9pm, musician, filmmaker, writer and teacher Alicia Jo Rabins (profiled in the St. Louis Jewish Light) will be at Kol Rinah for Havdalah and an evening of music and storytelling. She'll be here as part of a whole weekend spent in St. Louis. We'll have wine and snacks and a fun evening for adults. Thank you to Gina Bernstein and Rachel Weinhaus for helping to organize. I'll be leading a no-instruments Kabbalat Shabbat and ma'ariv here at 6pm tonight.
Tomorrow morning, services begin at 9am. We'll be reading the Ten Commandments, always a highlight!
Will Soll will be leading Torah Talk at about 10:10am.
Karen Kern is out of town, but filling in for her leading Tot Shabbat will be our own Gavriel Savit-Woods, starting at 10:45am.
Kiddush will follow services.
Shabbat ends at 6:06pm.
This Sunday, our KoREH Speakers Series continues at 9:15am. Dr. Richard Lazaroff, retired pediatrician and author of the book Some Assembly Required: A Guide to Savvy Parenting, will be speaking about being a parents while staying true to your principles. All are welcome.
Sunday, February 11 at 4pm, Verein's series on the history of the Yiddish theater continues on Zoom, this time focused on the Yiddish theater in Chicago. Details and sign-up here.
