Dear Kol Rinah Family,
Traveling is a wonderful privilege and experience, especially when it goes smoothly. I was grateful to be away with my family. Going away creates the experience of coming home though, which can have its own sweetness too.
I spoke back on December 16 about antisemitism. I'm curious to hear your reactions.
Here's one podcast episode--the Shalom Hartman Institute's "Israel at War" podcast with Rabbi Donniel Hartman and Yossi Klein Halevi--that I listened to recently that helped me understand more viscerally what the war in Gaza is really about for Israelis. It talks about the gap between global calls for a ceasefire and public opinion within Israel.
Next week launches a new St. Louis Jewish Communty study. It's been about ten years since the last one. The short version of what you need to know is that if you get a call/email about it, answer! More info is here.
Candle lighting tonight is is at 4:36pm. We'll gather at 6pm for an a cappella kabbalat Shabbat.
Tomorrow morning, we'll start at 9am. I'll be leading Torah Talk at about 10:10am, and Tot Shabbat will start at 10:45am, with kiddush following services.
Shabbat ends at 5:38pm.
Sunday from 11:30am-1pm, we'll have a Jewish summer camp fair, with representatives and alums for many camps represented, including Ben Frankel, Sabra, Ramah, Herzl, Young Judea, and LEAD STL (formerly Cultural Leadership). Come check it out--all are welcome, from the entire St. Louis community.
At 4pm, Verein will be hosting an in-person only event on the Story of Klezmer music, with Will Soll. It's going to be a great afternoon!
We have two intruder safety trainings with the Clayton Police Department coming up, on Tuesday evening January 9 at 7pm and Sunday, February 4 at 4pm. Both will be in person at Kol Rinah. Details and signup are here.

Every Shabbat morning, we are still reciting a prayer for the State of Israel, a prayer for Israel Defense Forces soldiers, and a prayer for hostages.
